While in the GP

So we did meet Dr Layton from Borchardt medical centre. She was a young, very friendly and nice doctor. She gave us enough information and put Yuan in the system for pregnant women*wow*. I admit that internet or to be precise “the online network” is ubiquitous in UK. It makes me feel as if you are not existed if you are not in the system hahaha.

Anyway, she explained about what will happen in the coming months. Bassically, we will be in a direct constant contact with the hospital (no longer with the GP) and a midwive. The hospital or midwive will be providing all the information and care that Yuan would be needing then *hmmm, including food or special request? :D*. So, we will be visiting the hospital/midwive to do all the USG scan, consultation, etc.

However, before she provided us with this information, she asked several questions:

Dr: had you done any test with the over-the-counter pregnancy test?
Us: yeah, twice.
Dr: then it’s positive. the test is sensitive and reliable enough providing you did it twice.
Us: so we don’t need a blood/urine test?
Dr: No.

*surprise surprise, as far as i know the indonesian doctor do it quite often don’t they?*

Us: (well, it was Yuan who asked) i am pregnant and i don’t know what to do. Could you give any advice?
Dr: first of all, do you expect to be pregnant?
Us: what……. of course we do hahaha, we were trying to have a baby :).

*Hahahaha, we thought, the doctor may think that these two young couple are in trouble of having extra-marital (or unplanned) pregnancy :D.*

Dr Layton then continued with all the basic information about the pregnancy i.e. what should we avoid, etc. She even gave us a pregnancy diary :). btw, we installed a pregnancy calendar in Yuan’s fancy mobile phone.

About food, bassically Yuan can eat almost everything EXCEPT uncooked food including soft cheese, blue cheese, and the like of. Dr Layton wasn’t so sure about salami or sausages. She suggested us to cook any meat/sausage/etc properly. So at the bottom line, Yuan should not eat anything raw or unprocessed. This is important for the baby’s development. Raw meat can carry dangerous bacteria that are harmful for fetus development. Scary information indeed.

So from now on, Yuan can only eat thoroughly cooked food. No more runny egg, medium barbecued meat, etc. Every meat and vegetable should be well-boiled, well-steamed, or well-fried.

The doctor also provided Yuan with a prescription for Vitamin D & Calcium supplement (Yuan already has the folic acid supplement a month prior to her pregnancy) . The good news is it is free *yeiy* :).

The meeting last for 15 minutes. We went home quite happily :). A new life is coming, time to pass the good news for our close relatives.
